We miss you all

6th June 2020

Hello everyone
My apologies for the looonnnggg delay since my last blog!
How are you all? My what an unprecedented time we are living in! I often feel like I can't quite believe Covid-19 is happening, it feels like I'm living in a film script! I hope you are all staying safe, whether you are a key worker, working from home, homeschooling, we miss each and every one of you while the hall is closed and we hope you are all coping ok. The hall and tearoom have been shut since Monday 16th March. The staff and treasured volunteers are staying in touch with each other via WhatsApp. We share stories of our childrens activities, dog walking, cross stitch projects and those trips when we have 'ventured out'! The community bookshelf from within the hall is slowly being emptied each week; please help yourself to the free books and puzzles left in the box by our front door. We can't wait until we can safely reopen for you. We'll keep you posted, there are updates about bits and bobs on our Facebook and 'Nextdoor' accounts. Stay safe everyone, love from Kat and all the staff and volunteers xx

13th January - BINGO

27th January 2020

Thank you to everyone who came and supported our Bingo in January, it was a horrible weather night and plus it also being in January I was unsure who would turn out! James had put quite a lot of the tables out for me which I thought was optimistic but people started drifting in and kept on coming, approximately 65 people attended! I ended up getting an extra table out! I was nervous as it was the first Bingo I'd run, but everyone made me feel so welcome and I couldn't have done it without the amazing volunteers! We raised about £400! I've learnt some lessons for our next one (Feb 13th) so please come and support it, all the funds raised go towards the hall - keeping it open for you, the community, to enjoy. Doors open at 6.15pm and we start at 7.30pm. Some prizes will have a subtle valentines theme!! See you on the 13th xx

Santa’s Grotto

23rd December 2019
Santa’s Grotto

What a festive time we had when Santa came to visit! We were very lucky he could fit us in for some Grotto sessions Weds 18th-Sat 21st December:)
Head Elf Sonya and her team did a fabulous job making a magical winter wonderland so Santa felt right at home!
We had a grand total of 67 children visit Santa! Each child received a gift from Santa and their parent/guardian accompanying them enjoyed a mince pie and hot drink:)
We had Christmas colouring posters to keep little ones busy and of course Christmas music playing in the cafe!
Next year we do hope Santa will be back, fingers crossed!
Wishing you all a very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year xxx

We would like to say a big THANK YOU to Gowlers plants, Marshland st James Primary School FOSA, Light of Grace Photography and the members of the public who donated decorations and trees - without you all our Grotto would not have been possible!

£2,000!!!!

10th December 2019
£2,000!!!!

Wow, what a night last night! To every single person who came along to support the hall and raise money for a village defibrillator...THANK YOU!!!

Thank you for bearing with us as I tried to make sure everyone had a seat. From the 'VIPs' on the stage to the lovely ladies almost in the kitchen, we managed to get everybody in the queue inside and didn't have to turn anyone away that had been waiting. Thank you for your understanding as I temporarily turned the men's loos into women's ones to ease your waiting time, and for letting the pregnant lady jump the queue before it was too late! Thank you for parting with your hand earned cash to spend the evening with us, for waiting as our wonderful volunteers tried to serve you as quickly as possible - both with tickets and with mince pies! Thank you for the cash donations, in particular a large donation received from Michael Smith. Thank you to all the volunteers who generously give up their time to help each month. A special thanks to Carol who baked cakes yesterday (they were lovely!), and her daughter who stays behind each month to shift those heavy tables and clear up. We are lucky to have the help, and this makes each event possible.

Last night you spent £2,000 which after costs for prizes and staff etc leaves us with close to £1200 towards the purchase of a defibrillator at last! Finally a personal thank you from me for coming and supporting us this year. It was my last bingo at Marshland Hall last night and I have had so much fun organising them for you all. I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas!

Hampers Galore

19th November 2019
Hampers Galore

Is it too early to be talking about Christmas??? The chocolate tubs have been out in the supermarkets for weeks now, and I've seen the John Lewis advert every day on TV this week, so I'm sure I'm allowed to start blogging about the Festive season!

Right now I'm busy planning for our Christmas bingo special, where we will be raising to funds to buy a defibrillator for the village. We are going to be having 12 games of prize bingo as the main game, so I am currently making up a total of 36 hampers - 12 big, 12 medium, and 12 small. We then have a big money cash game, huge supersized raffle (featuring a giant fluffy unicorn!), tombola, and a very special Christmas Presents free bonus game for the first 90 people through the door, where they have the chance to win 12 Christmas presents throughout the course of the evening! On top of that we have our usual lovely homemade refreshments with warm mince pies, and a selection of complimentary refreshments and Christmas crackers to get the party started!

We are currently looking for donations - big or small - to add to our prize hampers, or to go straight to the £1000 we need to raise that night. If you can help in any way please let us know!

'til next time,

Tracy x
